Ingredients

  • 1 (16-ounce) block of extra-firm tofu

  • 1 whole head broccoli, separated into bite-sized florets

  • 3 tablespoons sesame oil

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce (swap for tamari to make this gluten-free)

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

  • 1 ½ tablespoons garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger

  • 1 ½ tablespoons freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Start by prepping your tofu: Slice the full tofu block lengthwise into 3 evenly thick, even slabs. Stack all three slabs on top of each other, then slice through the stack lengthwise again to get 3 even long columns. Finish by slicing crosswise across the columns to make 15 evenly sized bite-sized pieces.

  2. Arrange the cut tofu in a single flat layer on a plate lined with 2-3 layers of paper towels. Add another 2 layers of paper towels on top of the tofu, then set a second heavy plate on top of the stack to apply consistent pressure. Press out as much excess water as possible, and let the tofu rest for a minimum of 30 minutes (this step is non-negotiable for crispy, not soggy, tofu!).

  3. While the tofu presses, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

  4. Move the pressed tofu and broccoli florets to a large mixing bowl. Drizzle with sesame oil and soy sauce, then toss lightly to coat everything evenly. In a small separate bowl, mix together the cornstarch, garlic powder, ground ginger, and black pepper. Sprinkle the dry seasoning blend over your tofu and broccoli, then toss again until every piece is evenly coated. Spread the mixture out in a single uncrowded layer on your prepared baking sheet.

  5. Bake for 10 minutes in the preheated oven, then flip all tofu and broccoli pieces to cook the other side. Return the sheet to the oven and bake for another 10 minutes, until the tofu turns golden and crispy all over. Serve warm.
